Exploration Geochemical Applications
1. As a Pathfinder

As a highly mobile decay product of uranium, radon is an important pathfinder for this element in areas of deep overburden cover. Instantaneous radon flux is normally analyzed by an emanometer or similar device. Integrative devices such as "Track Etch" measure flux over a longer period, thereby alleviating the effects of diurnal variations in flux caused by rainfall, variations in atmospheric pressure and other environmental factors.

2. As an Aid to Geological Mapping

Leakage anomalies may aid in the location or extrapolation of faults
